Her Mindset

Biography

Elizabeth Stamou

Psychologist – Cognitive Neuropsychologist, MSc

My academic journey began in the field of Physics, where I learned to view the world with precision, structure, and scientific rigor. I completed my BSc in Physics at the University of Crete, and subsequently pursued postgraduate studies in Medical Physics at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. My research focused on the imaging of neurodegenerative diseases and the early detection of mild cognitive impairment.

During my work at Oxford University Hospitals, I worked closely with patients living with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, experiencing firsthand how science is applied in clinical practice and the profound impact it can have on patients’ lives. This experience sparked a deep need to understand the human brain at a more fundamental level. With this continuing interest, I pursued a second MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuropsychology στο Birkbeck University of London, a postgraduate programme at the renowned University of London (UoL). There, I developed an in-depth understanding of the relationship between brain function and behaviour, studying a range of psychiatric and neurological conditions, including depression, obsessive–compulsive disorder, attention deficit disorders, and autism.

During my second MSc, I focused on the in-depth study of depression and the impact of stress on cognitive functioning, with particular emphasis on the prevention of neurological conditions.

Professionally, I have worked in leading London hospitals as a clinical scientist in neuroimaging, applying advanced techniques such as functional MRI (fMRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI tractography), and other brain imaging methods for the assessment and diagnosis of a wide range of conditions.

However, my interest in understanding and supporting people led me to study and acquire a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Cardiff Metropolitan University, accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), of which I am a Member (GMBPsS). As a result, in recent years my work has focused primarily on psychotherapy and holistic care.

Having many years of professional experience abroad, I have had the opportunity to work with and meet many resilient women. Through this work, I developed a deep understanding of the needs and everyday challenges women face, which led me to create Her Mindset. A space designed to support and empower women, offering psychotherapeutic approaches tailored to each individual’s unique journey towards personal growth and wellbeing.
